The One That Got Away

I read Amy Jo’s post about products that got away, and it prompted me to think about my out out-of-reach item: this doggy-themed stamp set from Cocoa Daisy.

Cocoa Daisy Dog Set

I have other dog stamps, but I love the cute whimsical quality of this one. It was available with their March planner kits; I thought it would be available with the scrapbook kit too. Whoops! Not so much. So I missed out. I’ve added it to my wish list, but I don’t expect it to become available again.

Do you have a lost product that got away?

Misty Eyed

This has been a year for new scrapbooking organization. My scraproom is still very much a work in progress, but I’ve made some headway in a few areas, such as spray inks. Spray ink is one of my obsessions favorite products, and I’ve collected a lot of them over the years. Dozens of them. Multiple dozens. But until lately, I’ve struggled with storing them. I think I’ve finally figured it out.

mist storage

It’s big. And it was expensive. But I don’t care. I like having my spray ink in one place. The top two tiers spin, which makes it easy to find what I need. And there’s room to grow, though I’m not planning to add to my collection. I think I have enough to last a while.

I made swatches for each color, so I know what I have and can choose the one that will work best with each layout.

So that’s my collection of spray ink. Now, to figure something out for my Thickers . . .

What’s your obsession favorite product? Please share in the comments.

Best Donuts Ever

I take photos of food. Judge me if you must, but it won’t keep me from doing it. :) I even have a food category in my photo organization. I pulled this one out of the box and decided to scrapbook it.

Best Donuts Ever

I’ve gotta say this is one of my favorite layouts I’ve created lately. And not just because of the photo.

  • This layout was the inspiration for the design. I love how this page turned out and will probably used this design again.
  • I am getting better at remembering to use washi tape! Which is nice since I have a ton of it.
  • Speaking of favorites, the patterned paper on the left is one I really enjoy. Just for fun, here’s another layout where I use it. I also use the same woodgrain patterned paper too. Weird how that happens; I didn’t plan it.

Your Friendship Makes More Sense Now

There is a process video for this layout. I hope you’ll watch and enjoy.

Never Say Never

A couple months ago, I remember telling someone I wouldn’t do Instagram. Er, well . . . I really should know better than to make those kinds of statements.

So. I’m on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alyssa.getting.scrap.done/.

I decided to do it as an informal challenge to myself to take a photo a day. I also want to improve my photography. Here are some of my favorite pics so far.

On Deadpool’s Lap

I love this photo and thought it gave me a good excuse to dip into some of my new Christmas supplies.

On Deadpool's Lap

So let’s jump right in.

  • I didn’t think I would use the Santa card, but it worked perfectly for this page. So excited to use something I thought would sit in my stash for a while.
  • The embellishments came from a Felicity Jane kit: the sequins, the clothespin, the super-thin washi tape. That’s another thing I wasn’t sure if I would use, but I like the pop of color it adds.
  • I outlined the patterned paper; I like this whimsical touch.

For more info, check out the process video. Until next time. :)

Kinda Revealing

Good Day

The tenth of each month is kind of a special day. It’s the day my Felicity Jane kit ships (except when it falls on a Sunday, like today; it will ship tomorrow instead). It’s the day the new Messy Box is revealed. And it’s the day to see new products from Elle’s Studio. Here’s how things usually go.

  • I am always excited to get my Felicity Jane kit. It’s a great mix of papers and products.
  • I like one or two items in the Messy Box . . . and pray that they will stop including papers and accessories with a lip motif. I keep thinking I will cancel my subscription. And then I don’t.
  • Seems like I love the Elle’s Studio kit every other month or so; sometimes they are too themey for me. But they always have some accessories I want.

It’s the tenth! I’m excited to see what’s in store with the product reveals today.

Edited to add: I’ve just checked things out. The Messy Box is meh as usual–only a couple of lips this time. And what am I supposed to do with a paper featuring denim shorts on it? But there are some fun images too. As for Elle’s Studio, I pretty much bought everything in this month’s kit. :)

I’m Retreating

I accepted a blogging challenge to post on my blog 21 times this month. After a strong start, I am brainstorming new topics. This blog entry about scrappy retreats got me thinking about something new I am doing this year: attending a scrapbooking retreat!

It’s not until this fall, but I am excited about it. Here’s the place I’m going, which looks beautiful to me. :)

I’ll be here with a group of 20 or so scrappers I know from a scrapbooking Facebook group. Meeting them all for the first time, so I’m a little nervous, too. But I’m also excited! I’ve got many months left to prepare, but I need to start putting together page kits. I’ll be there a little more than three days, and I want to get some pages done.

Anyone have any tips about scrappy retreats? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Language

Language Cap

Disclaimer: I can be a bit sweary. And this shows up in my scrapbooking from time to time. Here’s an example.

BBF

This language may offend some people. But I want my pages to be genuine. I want people who know me and look at my pages to see me in them–and not just in the photographs. My journaling is best when it sounds like me. So I’m fine with this quirk. I don’t swear on all of my pages, but sometimes I do. Just like I don’t always swear in real life . . . but sometimes I do. :)

What do you do in your scrapbooking to ensure it reflects you?

Guy with the Gun

I’ve had this comic con photo for a while now but have struggled to scrapbook it because of the bright color of Bruce Campbell’s jacket. Finally I just decided to embrace the yellow and go for it.

Guy with the Gun

A few points about the layout.

  • I’ve collected a lot of washi tape but don’t always remember to use it. So I’m pleased that I used a couple of tapes on this page.
  • This layout came together quickly. Nuts about Sketches offers several great sketches for 8 x 10 photos. I used this one.
  • I outlined the edges of the patterned paper and love the look it adds to the layout.

Have you ever had a photo you had a hard time scrapping? What finally helped you move past it?

Pretty Paper

Let’s be honest here, people. I’ve been scrapping for nearly 20 years. I have plenty of patterned paper. Plenty. I do not need more patterned paper. Yet somehow, when I went to Tuesday Morning, I ended up leaving with these in hand.

Paper Everywhere

I would ask how this happened except I know exactly how it happened. I make myself justify any paper purchase I make these days. I bought the stack on the left because I am a sucker for script writing. And even the non-scripty papers are fun and use colors I love. I bought the stack on the left because I was feeling a bit nostalgic. Plus, look at those florals! They are fabulous.

My next step: make the purchase worthwhile by using some of this paper.
