High Five Paw

One of my toy poodle’s nicknames is Claws. This is because he uses his front paws a lot, especially to get attention. This makes it fun to do high five with him.

High Five Paw

Now, let’s talk about the layout.

  • Here’s the layout that inspired this page.
  • To add color to the paw prints, I took a small paintbrush, dipped it in mist, and added it to the page. I wanted to add more definition to the circles, so I stamped a circle on top in the same color.
  • Since I used a lot of older products, this layout is part of my Something Old, Something New series. The new items I used were the paw print template and texture paste.

For more info about how I made this page, check out the process video.

Until next time. 🙂

Onstage

I have loads of photos waiting to be scrapped. One thing I don’t scrap as often is memorabilia—and I’ve got a bunch of that too. With this page, I finally got some memorabilia out of storage and onto a page. Hurray!

Onstage

The memorabilia is a program and a ticket for a play my niece did in high school.

Let’s talk more about the layout.

  • I knew that the program would take up a bunch of room on the page, so I didn’t use a sketch for the page. I decided to figure out where the program would go and then just place everything else around it. This worked out all right, though I wouldn’t call this a perfect design. I’m pleased with the page nonetheless.
  • How to adhere the memorabilia is always a question. In this case, I did some hand sewing along the bottom and the two sides of the blue floral paper to create a pocket for the program. Hand sewing is always time consuming, but it wasn’t too bad in this case. As for the ticket, I tucked that behind the photos with most of it in sight.
  • I love the little pops of pink on this page. The pink diecuts and texture paste stand out against the blue and gray on the layout.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to check out the process video.

Until next time. Be back soon!

The Case That Broke My Heart

I want my scrapbooks to be a complete reflection of me. My Scrapping the Spectrum series is about scrapping all of life’s emotions, including things that make me sad or mad. This layout captures a sad moment.

The Case That Broke My Heart

I know that gaming is not a big deal for a lot of people, but after playing Criminal Case for several years I grew attached to the characters. So I was sad about a certain character development. I’m not going into specifics to avoid spoiling it for anyone who might be playing. Anyway, this was a small moment in my life but did have an impact. So I’m scrapbooking it.

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • Sketch Savvy is one of my favorite sketch sites, and I used one of the sketches for this layout.
  • One of my favorite things to do when scrapbooking is mix and match papers and products from different companies. I really like pulling a variety of disparate items and bringing them together on one page. I did that with this page and love the way the papers go together.
  • I used a bullet hole stamp on this page, which I like, but I think I should have stamped it in a different color. Maybe red. Right now I think it blends too much with the rest of the navy.

Thanks for watching. Until next time. 🙂

Fridays Are for Shitty Movies

Friday night is for me—it’s my unwinding time. Often I’ll watch Dateline, but I also enjoy bad made-for-TV movies. Especially if they are really bad. Or feature Tony Danza trying to do a southern accent. I guess that’s the same thing.

Fridays Are For

Now, let’s talk about the layout.

  • The design of this page started in a different place than it ended. I originally went with a grid, but the size of the photos and cards didn’t leave much room for embellishments. Once I got to this stage, I knew I wouldn’t be happy with the result. So I set aside the cards, pulled up the adhered title (ouch), and started over. That gave the layout a lot more breathing room.
  • The sketch I used is from a paid sketch class.
  • This layout has less embellishing than I’m used to, but I still like the way it turned out. And I love the pop of yellow.
  • I used three journaling spots from my stash. Only one is for actual journaling, but that’s OK.

Here’s the process video for your enjoyment.

Thank you for stopping by. Until next time!

Hello Friend

I am working my way through the projects I created at last year’s Victoria Marie scrapbook retreat. I thought I had posted this one ages ago, but I checked, and nope. So it’s up now.

Hello Friend

I definitely have a lot to say about this layout.

  • I used a magazine ad as inspiration for this page.
  • I ended up being glad I hadn’t posted this layout before. I came across it a little while ago and just didn’t feel like it was complete. So I added some embellishments: flair, diecuts, and a tag. I feel better about it now.
  • Having said that, not every layout can be perfect. With some, you just have to tell yourself it’s finished and move on. That’s what I ultimately did here. I love the photo, color scheme, and chipboard, but I don’t feel like there is an obvious place for journaling. Not every page needs journaling, but I notice the absence on this particular layout. Also, there is too much—or maybe not enough?—white space. I can’t quite put my finger on why; it just feels like there is something off about this page. But I don’t care. I’m gonna put it in an album and go to the next one.

Both stages of the process are shown here. Check it out below.

That’s it for now. Thanks for watching and reading. Until next time. 🙂

Sweet Friends

I have a seemingly endless supply of photo strips. It’s time to scrapbook another one.

Sweet Friends

Now, let’s talk about the layout.

  • I’m trying to make a small dent in my Felicity Jane stash. All the patterned paper I used is from their kits.
  • Here’s the page that inspired the design of this layout.
  • This page features a wide variety of embellishments: diecuts, puffy stickers, stickers, and more. Can someone tell me the best way to use pinwheels on a page? The shape is so odd I never feel like I know where to place them. If you have any tips, please share.

Until next time. 🙂

Selfies Gone Wrong

I went to visit my wingman and took a bunch of selfies. Great idea, right? Well, take a closer look at these selfies . . .

Selfies Gone Wrong

And now, let’s look at the layout.

  • I created the page for a National Scrapbook Day challenge to use a grid design. That made the design easy–just two rows of 3 x 4 photos and cards. There was a small issue because the photos were horizontal while the cards were vertical. I got around this by cropping an inch from the cards.
  • Because so much of the layout is flat paper, I wanted to add some dimensional elements as well. I used some wood veneer (the “hot mess” circle) and chipboard in colors that went with the photos.
  • I keep my branding strips together in a bag (see photo below) so I can use them on a project. Two of them frame the photos.

Border Strips

Hope you enjoy the process video. You can watch it here.

Until the next one.

New Sisters

Some pictures are so good you want to make them the center of your layout. That’s definitely true for this one.

New Sisters

So, let’s talk about the layout.

  • Here’s the sketch I used for this layout. It’s a fun sketch because it can be used in a couple of ways. The big section on the right can be a large photo or it can be patterned paper. I used it as patterned paper on this layout.
  • I was already a fan of the blue floral patterned paper, but it’s perfect with the dress on the left. Love the way they look together.
  • I had a lot of journaling to do on this layout, so it was easy to choose paper for the right side of the page. A simple lined paper was great for journaling and a good contrast to the busy paper on the left.

The process video is below if you’d like to get more information about this layout.

Until next time!

Little Stories to Remember

This layout marks a milestone number of scrapbooking process videos for my YouTube channel. Kinda cool and amazing!

Little Stories

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • The stamp set definitely deserves a mention. I received it from Angie Rushlow, a scrapper and fellow Forensic Files fan I met at last year’s Victoria Marie Scrapbook Retreat. I love this set to pieces. The body outline is a thing of beauty! Thank you, Angie!
  • I “finished” this layout a few months ago but it’s been sitting because I wondered if the background was too plain. I finally decided it’s not, so here it is.
  • I chose the color scheme from the photo.

As I mentioned before, this layout is a milestone. I now have 150 process videos posted. Hope you enjoy this one!

Until next time.

This Is Just Me

There are some pages I just love looking at. This is one of them. Maybe because of the mix of patterned papers: the gorgeous mint background with floral and woodgrain accents. Three things that I love.

This Is Me

Now let’s talk about the layout.

  • Here’s the sketch that inspired this page.
  • I am still in love with texture paste, and I used some on this page. It’s subtle, but you can see it below the doily. It’s much more prominent in person.
  • There’s a variety of chipboard on the layout. I added it both for dimension and for the nice color coordination.

If you have a few minutes, I hope you’ll check out the process video.

Until next time!
