2nd Annual

One of my highlights from last year is the Victoria Marie scrapbook retreat. It was held in October about a week before I moved, and I definitely needed some scrappy time. I spent months creating scrapbook page kits so I would be able to create pages. And, of course, I wanted to create a page about the event.

2nd Annual

Victoria graciously printed this photo for all the attendees! Let’s talk about the layout.

  • This layout started with a white cardstock background. Later on, I decided I needed a bit more contrast, so I chose a darker pattern.
  • Here is the page that inspired my design.
  • I added the chipboard leaves on a whim because they were on the same sheet as the “heck yes” circle. They look nice so I kept them.
  • I couldn’t decide whether to put the title at the top or bottom of the photo, so I posted pics on Facebook to get opinions. As you can see, I went with the top and believe it’s the better choice.

There’s lots more! Check it out on my process video.

Thanks for visiting. I’ll be back again soon!

Hello Love

I am scrapbooking so much lately that it’s hard for me to keep the blog current. Here’s one of my recent pages.

Hello Love Brunch

The photo is of me and my parents. I love it because I was trying to make sure all three of us would be in the selfie. So our amused expressions are genuine. :)

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • I struggle when it comes to using cream-based patterned paper. I simply don’t like it as much as white-based paper. However, I have accumulated some in paper pads and want to use them. The colors in the photo seemed perfect for Maggie Holmes collections, and I used a lot of her paper and ephemera on this layout.
  • Speaking of ephemera, I used some vellum ephemera. In some cases, I ran it through my Xyron, attached it to white cardstock, and then cut it out to use on the layout. This kept those pieces from blending in too much into the background. Other vellum I left alone to add variety.
  • I used a sketch from this class.

To find out more about how I created this page, check out my process video.

Thank you for watching. I’ll be back again soon!

Happy 2018

Do you create title pages for your album each year? I often do. Here’s the one I made for 2018.

Hello 2018

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • When I create a page, I usually start with a photo. As you can see, that wasn’t the case here. Instead, I started with a 4 x 6 pocket page card. I have several of these from various kits, so I went through them and found one with a phrase that stood out to me. Then I used that card (from an Ali Edwards kit) to determine my color scheme.
  • Here is the sketch I used for this layout.
  • Yes, I am still diving into my Felicity Jane kit supplies. If I want to keep subscribing to it, I need to be better at using what I receive. It has piled up because I have scrappy ADD and don’t like to stay with one product line for too long.
  • I kept the tassels in place by attaching glue dots to the back of the metal portion.

My 2018 album is off to a nice start! You are welcome to check out my process video here.

Thanks for visiting! I’ll be back again soon with a new layout.

Fall Adventure

This layout is definitely a departure for me. I typically do 12 x 12 pages. When I try to create in a different size or format, I get frustrated. But I got a traveler’s notebook at the 2017 Victoria Marie scrapbook retreat and decided to put it to use. I’m going to document my time at the retreat. I will do between three to five spreads about each year I attend. Here is my first layout.

Fall Adventure

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • I decided to treat the notebook as one layout rather than as separate pages. The size of the whole page is about 8 x 8.
  • For most of this layout, I used Felicity Jane products. I don’t know if that will continue throughout the album, but it worked nicely for this page.
  • Though I usually love dimension on my pages, I don’t want the notebook to be too bulky. So the piece of wood veneer is the only dimensional item I added.

Check out the process video here.

I don’t have a specific goal of when to finish this notebook, but I enjoyed this enough to do more. I’ve already created another page that I will share soon. Until next time! :)

Reunion

My scraproom overrunneth with products from my Felicity Jane kits. Time to dive into them and use some things up.

Reunion

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • This layout inspired the design of my page.
  • Most of the products I used are from Felicity Jane kits. The only exceptions are a couple of stickers and the background paper that frames the page.
  • I did the journaling with a typewriter I got at Tuesday Morning. The typewriter takes 12 x 12 paper, but you have to do the journaling before adhering anything.

Of course, there’s more. Check out the process video.

I’m doing lots of scrapping, so I’ll be back again very soon. Hope you enjoy!

Celebrate

I love layouts with white space, but for me it’s a tough balance between too much/not enough and just right. This one comes pretty close to right.

Celebrate

I actually did this layout in 2016, though I added a few elements once I pulled out the page to get it ready to be posted. Let’s talk about the layout.

  • The sketch I used for the design is from a paid sketch class, so I can’t post a photo of it. I can provide a link to the class, which is currently being offered for free. So go grab it–looks like you can get it free through January 7.
  • I like the pop of gray with the thread on the tag.
  • Once I pulled out the layout to post it here, I decided to add a few dimensional elements. I added the acrylic stars and black arrows under the photo.

If you have a few minutes, I hope you’ll check out the process video below.

I’ve been scrapping this weekend, and I’m excited to share my new projects with you. Be back again soon!

Hello Love

I’m filing this page under “there can never be too many scrapbook pages about my boys.” This one features my Cue-man.

Hello Love

The photo is one of Cupid sunning himself on the deck. Let’s talk about the rest of the layout.

  • One element I really like is the way I incorporated stamping. Since I knew I would have an entire square for journaling, I decided to stamp in the speech bubble instead of writing something. This phrase seems pretty appropriate because Cupid loves to sunbathe.
  • Since I used gold word stickers for the title, I wanted to add more gold elements. That’s why I added the heart stickers that are from the same collection, so they have that same gold glitter look.
  • I love the black and white washi tape that divides the squares from the title. It came in a Felicity Jane kit, and I don’t know what I will do when I run out of it. I have a lot for now. Hopefully it lasts for a good long time.

For more fun facts about the process of creating this layout, watch the process video below.

Thanks for visiting. I’ll be back soon with another layout. :)

Merry + Bright

I love this layout, and I don’t know if it’s because of the layout or because of how wonderful it was to hang out with my friend Mary Elizabeth. She came to town earlier this month for work, and we spent some time together.

Merry + Bright (700x651)

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • The patterned papers are from a Christmas-themed Fairytale Club kit.
  • Here’s the sketch I used for my design.
  • I chose the Merry + Bright card because it makes a nice title and I like the contrast of the black. I added a few other small black stickers to create a visual triangle.

Here is the process video; please excuse my hoarse voiceover. I was recovering from a cold.

I’ll be back soon with another holiday layout. Until then, take care. :)

So Cute & Cozy

Because nothing says Christmas like a scrapbook page about socks. Hey, they are warm, cozy, and adorable socks. :)

So Cute & Cozy

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • I use a lot of Messy Box supplies on this layout. I love their designs even if their kits didn’t seem to coordinate all that well. I’ve got a bunch still left to use, but this layout made a small dent in my cards.
  • Here’s the layout that inspired my design.
  • The title was originally “So cozy,” but the top of the page needed more visual weight to counter-balance the bottom. So I added the gold part of the title as well. Which led me to add a gold doily and gold phrase stickers to maintain continuity.

Feel free to check out the process video!

I’m working on more holiday layouts; I’ll post again soon. Until then, take care.

So Lovely

My first Christmas layout of the year! Well, sort of.

So Lovely (700x672)

Let’s talk about the layout.

  • I had a totally different background going on with this page. I thought it looked too busy, though, so I switched it out for a new one. I used texture paste on both backgrounds but I used white on white for the second one, and I think that kept things from being too overwhelming.
  • Even though I am posting this layout now, I created this page last December. When I pulled it out to do the process video, I decided it wasn’t quite finished, so I added the phrase stickers and other stickers. I added the date as well.
  • The soft colors of this layout make me smile. I like traditional red/green Christmas layouts but non-conventional colors are fun too.

If you want to see how this layout evolved, check out my process video.

Be back soon with another layout. Until next time. :)
