This Makes Me Happy

I am so excited to be involved with a group of scrapbooking YouTubers who are making a dent in their stash! This is our first month, and our focus is on using punches! Here’s my layout for the YouTube hop,

You Make Me Happy

My nephew got married this month, and I loved working with this wedding photo. So without further ado, let’s talk about the layout.

  • As I mentioned, the focus of this month’s layout and video is using punches. I used a punch that had a set of three hearts on it. I punched several hearts out of the paper and used them in the two embellishment clusters on this page. Then I took a leftover piece of cardstock that had the hearts punched out and used it as a stencil. I applied several texture paste hearts to my niece-in-law’s dress. Once the paste dried, I added clear Wink of Stella glitter to add a pretty shimmer that helped the hearts stand out.
  • Although punches were the primary  focus, I also pulled patterned paper from my stash. The floral paper has been part of my stash for more than 10 years. I love that I was able to get it onto a page. The journaling piece is also something that I’ve had a while.
  • I did not use a sketch for this. I really wanted the photo to be highlighted, so I had it printed as an 8 x 12 photo and then added two embellishment clusters.
  • Once I had almost finished the layout, I wanted to add more dimension. I found the pretty resin flowers in coordinating colors, and I think they look great.

There are  photos I have tried to scrapbook several times; this is one of them. I guess today is its day. 🙂

I struggled with this photo because I wasn’t sure which colors to use with it. We are all wearing such different colors, so there wasn’t an obvious choice there. I could have turned the pic to black and white, but I do that very rarely and didn’t feel this one warranted it. I finally decided to go monochromatic. So let’s move on to talking about that.

  • No sketch for this page! The design evolved from a few product decisions: I wanted to  use this dance acetate from a Messy Box kit. However, their paper (and acetate sheets) are only 9″ x 12″, so I had to do something on one of the sides. That led me to the large white letters, also from a Messy Box.
  • Since I was using some fairly new products, I decided to dip into my stash for the photo mat. The corrugated paper came from my 8-1/2″ x 11″ days, and I added some older vellum and a square doily as well.
  • I liked stamping on the side of the title. I used some stamps from my Felicity Jane kits.

Random note about the photo: I love how this picture also captures Cupid’s endless desire to fetch. He’s in the background waiting for my sister to throw the toy for him. 🙂

You know that patterned paper in your stash, the one that you pull out for multiple layouts but it never gets used? Well, I finally used it for this layout.

This page is part of my Something Old, Something New series, where I incorporate older items from my stash with fun, new products.

  • The new products are the patterned papers behind the photos and some of the stamps. The older products are the patterned paper I used for the background (which I’ve tried to use several times before, and it just never quite made it onto a page), the flair, and the small doily stamp.
  • Here is the page that inspired this layout.
  • It was fun to go through my collection of doggy-themed flair. I have a lot of it, but I have a little less now that I’ve used some.

Here is the process video for this layout! Hope you like it. 🙂

Just Dream

Cupid definitely loves the puffy pillow I got him for Christmas. He looks so cute curled up on it, and I wanted to capture a little of that cuteness in a layout.

Just Dream

Let’s get started.

  • This layout is a combination of new products and products from my stash, which means it’s part of my Something Old, Something New series. The new is the pocket page card (from a Messy Box), the heart stamp, and the dog-themed word stickers. Old is much of the patterned paper and the flair buttons. I wasn’t sure I’d ever use the latter because of the color, but the purple suits this layout perfectly.
  • Remember when Big Lots used to sell scrapbooking supplies? Me too, but it was years ago. The grid paper and multicolored paper are from a paper pad I got there a while ago.
  • I used this sketch as inspiration for the layout.

There is a process video you can also watch. Hope you enjoy it!

No Better Time Than Today

Times have certainly changed since my school days. This is my niece’s school photo.

No Better Time Than This

I’ve been scrapbooking for a very long time, so I decided to start a YouTube series dedicated to mixing older and newer products. This layout is an installment of that series, and there are several interesting things to note.

  • That background paper is from 2000. Yes, you read that right. It’s made it through several purges, so when I was looking through my patterned papers to see what I could find, I plucked it out of the pile. The flower on the top right is part of that paper; I simply cut it out and used it as an embellishment.
  • The Stampin’ Up! patterned papers under the photo are also from an older collection.
  • The Messy Box cards and copper flair are the new elements on this page.
  • I put the wrong year on this layout. This photo is actually from 2015. Whoops! I’ll fix it.

Driving through a Winter Wonderland

After Christmas last year, the whole family–including the dogs–drove through a Christmas light display. Clayton seemed to love it, and I was excited to scrapbook these photos of the back of his head (ha) as he took in the lights.

Winter Winderland

Here are a few things about this layout:

  • I used this layout as my guide to the design.
  • Though I love the patterned paper I used as the background, I wanted to tone it down a little around the photos to ensure they would stand out. So I applied white gesso to the page. As you can see, it softens the pattern but still allows it to show through.
  • This is the first page in my Something Old, Something New YouTube series, where I combine newer products with older products. Another endeavor in my effort to use my extensive stash. In this case, I combined recent Stampin’ Up! paper with some older rub-ons, cardstock scraps, and vellum.
