Bring On the Chocolate

When I was a subscriber of Club Scrap, I got a kit one month that was packed with chocolate-themed products. Looked like fun, I thought, but I had a couple of problems. One, I had a stack of Club Scrap kits I hadn’t used so the stuff was buried. And two, I am not a big fan of chocolate. Don’t get me wrong: I like things like Snickers or Reese Sticks. Even chocolate milk as long as I dilute it with regular milk. But brownies, chocolate ice cream, plain chocolate bars, etc. I can do without. I know, I know. I’ve had many people tell me how weird that is, but what do you do? My sweets addiction is ice cream, not chocolate.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, when I got some photos printed. Chocolate played a prominent part in the photographs as did mustaches. So I decided it was time to dig out that Club Scrap paper and see if it would work. It was even better than I anticipated as you can see.

I never thought I would use mustache embellishments on anything, but they suited this layout. And I finally put my chocolate paper to use. In fact, the stashometer rating is 49%. All the paper I used is from my stash. Sweet!

As for the chocolate mustache . . . I didn’t eat mine. I let my sister and niece have it. Weird, I know. I’m sure I had some ice cream later though.

College Girl

I have been trying to clear off my scrapbook desk but keep getting distracted. This time by this layout that I’ve been wanting to redo for a while.

The unfinished page. Great colors but no embellishments.

I loved the background paper and still do, so I wanted to keep that. But I wanted a more interesting title and a less monochromatic look. So here’s what I ended up with.

The updated version. I love how the photo pops off the page. This is still a monochromatic layout, but there’s much more contrast, which makes the page more interesting.

I started with a Page Maps sketch but ended up changing things quite a bit. I am quite happy with the addition of the lighter colors. I think it really helps the photo stand out more. And I got to keep the original patterned paper background, although I tore it a little when I pulled up the other pieces. Luckily it was easy enough to cover it up with the lighter paper.

So that’s the new layout. What do you think of the difference?

April Showers Bring May Snow

The weather is always a bit weird where I live. I’ve often used the heat and air conditioning in the same day. This was a new kind of crazy for the year, though, and the title says it all.

I used a Page Maps sketch for this layout, and the stashometer rating is pretty high: 55%. I have started to use a new system to organize some of my embellishments, and it makes it easier to find ones that will work on my layout. I will post about what I’ve done later this week, after I have a chance to take some good photos.

Have you had any May storms where you live?

Acquaintance, Pal, Friend

I didn’t get a whole lot done on the actual interNational Scrapbook Day (NSD), but I’ve been slowly scrapping my way through the week. Here’s a two-page layout I did about a work acquaintance/pal/friend.

I’ll try to get a non-glary picture of the right hand page, but I wanted to post it anyway. I did it for Shimelle’s challenge to do a two-page layout. Here’s how it looks as a spread.

I used a sketch from Let’s Scrap and pulled out some butterfly patterned paper I’ve been wanting to use for a layout. I bought a few sheets of this and I’m glad, because I am excited to use it again. 🙂 I also pulled out some new flair to use as embellishments on the page.

I did use one item from the stash: the yellow sticker that says “life.” I also created some custom letters by embossing some chipboard Thickers. You can still see a faint trace of the grid pattern on the base, but that just adds character.

I Love This Boy

I got several new masks recently, and I was ready to use them. Case in point: the pie chart mask used below.

I’m still getting used to this mask, so I decided to stick with one color instead of going with several colors. I’m sure I’ll try a multicolored look eventually. 🙂 I still like the way it looks. I used paint here and made it a color to coordinate with my boy Cupid. The color on this photo didn’t turn out quite as I hoped; the background is actually a darker green than it appears here. Oh well. Still, I like the layout and I’m having fun using up paper scraps.

Superheroes

I’m gearing up for International Scrapbook Day, but in the meantime, I’ve got some layouts to share, and the unifying theme is the ampersand patterned paper–oh, and superheroes. 🙂 Here’s the first one.

This photo makes me smile, and I dug into my flair collection and found the two I used above.

Once I started the next page I pulled out my ampersand pattern paper scrap. I think I only had one sheet of it; I wish I had more, but I got some good use out of it. This layout is from last Halloween.

So these are my recent superhero layouts. Fun. 🙂
